Our Journey

The Beginning (1998–2000)

The story of VedicMaths.org begins with Kenneth Williams, a British mathematician and educator who had been studying and teaching the Vedic Mathematics system of Sri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji since the 1970s. Kenneth was among the earliest Western scholars to recognise the profound pedagogical value of the 16 Sutras and their Sub-Sutras. Having written several books on the subject and taught courses across the United Kingdom and internationally, he understood that the internet offered an unprecedented opportunity to share this knowledge with the world.

In March 1999, Kenneth launched the Vedic Mathematics Newsletter, an email-based publication that would eventually run to more than 180 issues spanning over 25 years. The newsletter covered new teaching methods, problem solutions, reader questions, book reviews, conference announcements, and research developments. It became the connective tissue of the global Vedic Mathematics community, linking practitioners from India to Ireland, from South Africa to Singapore.

The website itself, VedicMaths.org, went live in 2000. It was among the very first dedicated Vedic Mathematics websites anywhere in the world and quickly became the definitive online reference. From the outset, Kenneth’s vision was generous: the site would provide free tutorials, articles, and resources to anyone who wished to learn, regardless of background or location.

Building the Library (2001–2010)

Through the first decade, the site grew steadily. Kenneth and a small team of contributors published tutorial series covering the core Vedic methods: multiplication by the Nikhilam and Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Sutras, division, squaring, square roots, algebraic factorisation, simultaneous equations, and more. Each tutorial was written in clear, accessible English with worked examples and practice exercises.

The articles section expanded to include historical essays on Tirthaji’s life and work, discussions of the philosophical foundations of the Sutras, reports from schools implementing Vedic methods, and contributions from researchers around the world. A comprehensive books section catalogued and reviewed every significant publication on Vedic Mathematics, from Tirthaji’s original text to modern teaching guides.

By 2010, VedicMaths.org had become the acknowledged global hub for Vedic Mathematics online. Search engines consistently ranked it at or near the top for relevant queries, and it was cited by educational institutions, media outlets, and government education bodies in multiple countries.

Courses and Conferences (2011–2020)

The next phase saw significant expansion into structured education. Kenneth developed a suite of online courses, from introductory level through to advanced diploma and specialist topics such as calculus, trigonometry, and astronomy. These courses provided systematic, guided study paths for students who wanted to go beyond the free tutorials and achieve a thorough mastery of the Vedic system.

Beginning in 2013, VedicMaths.org played a central role in organising International Vedic Mathematics Conferences, which brought together educators, researchers, and students from around the world. These events, held periodically through 2020, featured presentations on new teaching methods, research findings, curriculum integration strategies, and student demonstrations. They helped to establish Vedic Mathematics as a serious field of educational practice and scholarly inquiry.

The newsletter continued its vital role throughout this period, publishing regular issues that kept the global community informed and connected. Special editions covered conference proceedings, new book releases, and pedagogical innovations.

A New Chapter (2024–Present)

In April 2025, ownership of VedicMaths.org and VedicMaths.com was transferred to Learning Analytic Pvt Ltd, led by Lokesh Tayal, an IIT and IIM alumnus with deep expertise in technology and education. This transition marks the beginning of a new era for the site, one that preserves and honours its remarkable 25-year heritage while embracing modern technology to reach even more learners worldwide.

Under the new stewardship, VedicMaths.org is being modernised with a contemporary platform, improved navigation, mobile-responsive design, enhanced search capabilities, and integration with Math2Shine, a structured B2B programme that brings Vedic Mathematics to schools and educational institutions. The commitment to free, high-quality educational content remains unchanged.

Kenneth Williams continues to contribute his expertise and serves as a valued advisor, ensuring continuity with the site’s founding vision while supporting its evolution into a modern educational platform.
